Ariel’s Story

Ariel learned of Earthships in 2009 from the documentary Garbage Warrior. From 2009-2011, she interned on builds in TX & Mexico and worked at Earthship Biotecture in Taos, NM. Now, she’s ready to build an off-grid, self-sustainable, Earthship-inspired studio & needs your help! RSVP & donate.

It Takes a Village

One of the best parts about building is the community that is created when we join together to make sustainability a reality.

Come get hands-on experience learning sustainable building methods, while making life-long friends & dreams come true! RSVP

The Plan

After a successful Tire Workshop in October 2021, we are pausing to plan the next stages of the build. Experienced lead builders guided volunteers to build the thermal tire walls, install water storage cisterns and cooling tubes. For updates on how to get involved in upcoming stages, RSVP to express interest!

ABOUT TAOS

HOW TO BE PREPARED FOR TAOS

BE PREPARED

Prepare for Northern NM’s high altitude, bright sun & quickly shifting weather. Pack layers for highs in the sunny 60s and lows near freezing. Wool & fleece are better than cotton. Pack a hat, gloves, jacket & rain gear along with lighter layers, warm socks & good hiking boots. Bring sun protection like sun hats, sunglasses, sunscreen, SPF lip balm & lotion. To prevent altitude sickness, drink lots of water & eat juicy fruits. Cell reception & wifi can be spotty, so fuel up & plan ahead. Bring a swimsuit for hot springs!

SAFETY & EMERGENCIES

We will monitor the CDC’s COVID-19 guidelines. If you feel sick, please get tested. In an emergency, call 911 & reference these emergency resources. (Local area code- 575)

EAT & DRINK

We plan to provide lunch, snacks & water during the workshop. However, please plan to eat a proper breakfast & bring whatever food, snacks & drinks you need to prepare you for physical work in a remote location. Stock up on groceries from spots like CID’s and Sol; breakfast from Toribio’s, Taos Cow, The Coffee Spot & Taos Diner; casual dining at the Burger Stand & Guadalajara Grill; or fine dining at Medley, Martyr’s & Sabrosos.

EXPLORE

Explore natural hot springs, hiking, scenic drives like High Road and Enchanted Circle, shopping, cultural & arts events, or nearby places like Georgia O’Keeffe’s Ghost Ranch or Meow Wolf in Santa Fe.
